Being an ezine publisher, you will find, is one of the best income
generating opportunities online.
Initially, getting your ezine started
is time consuming, but once you have it together, you will find it was worth
every minute of your time.
I am about to show you how I have grown into
being a successful ezine publisher. I started my first ezine September 2000
and today, August 2002, my
DotComMommies.com ezine has about 35,000 subscribers. My
ezine produces on the average of $500 a week just from one
mailing.
Let's get started in creating your ezine so you can make a
nice income.
Subscribe to other publisher's
ezinesSubscribe to as many ezines that are similar to what you
want your ezine to be about.
By subscribing to similar content ezines,
you can see what other publishers are doing. It will provide you content
ideas, resources, and how they are making money.
1. Go to a search
engine like
www.mamma.com
and search for a related topic to your new ezine.
2. Go to email list
hosts like
www.yahoogroups.com or
www.topica.com and search for lists that are announcement
lists for newsletters.
When you start receiving other publisher's
ezines, I would recommend putting them in a folder in your email program. I
use Outlook Express and place ezines in different folders to reference
too.
What to do with other publisher's ezinesYou want to
read each and every ezine you subscribe to on a regular basis. There are
reasons why and I am going to tell you.
1. Getting ideas of how you
want to format your. Seeing the format of other ezines will give you lots of
great ideas on how to create your ezine format.
2. You want to see
what each publisher puts in their ezine to give you lots of ideas on content.
Do they write their own articles or use other people's articles?
3.
Check to see if publishers have paying advertisers like top sponsor
advertisements or any other advertisements. Also look to see if they have a
section called something like, "For Advertising Rates, go here..." You are
checking to see how much they charge for advertising and where they place
advertisements in their ezines.
4. You also want to see if they have
the total subscribers posted in the ezine. If they don't then ask. You are
trying to compare the advertising rates to how many subscribers. This will
give you a realistic amount to charge potential advertisers.
5. Is the
ezine publisher using affiliate programs? This is a way ezine publishers can
make some extra money on top of paying advertisers. You want to see who they
use for their programs and sign up.
Ezine Content is
GoldYou want to make your ezine something that every subscriber is
going to open up and read.
Personally, I am subscribed to hundreds of
ezines, and I do not have time to read them all, but there are a few I will
read every time I get it.
Why is that?
There are really good
ezines out there that are packed with great information. I want to make sure I
am on top of what is going on with making money online.
Content is the
key. Good content will not only keep subscribers subscribed, but it will also
keep subscribers reading it and checking out what you have inside. Happy
subscribers = higher earnings for you.
Also, an ezine that has really
good content would be an ezine that a current subscriber shares with their
family and friends, which would turn into more subscribers for
you.
Deciding what to put in your ezine1.
Articles
I feel it is very important to either write your own articles
or use other people's free articles. Of course, writing your own articles sets
a value to your ezine and makes it original. Before announcing your ezine, I
suggest starting to write some of your own articles to put inside your ezine,
if you decide to have articles. You want to make sure you have a supply of
them ready to go.
2. Affiliate Programs
I suggest putting some
affiliate programs inside your ezine so you can make money from offering
various offers.
3. Decide how many spots in your ezine you will offer
advertisers. You may not be able to offer advertising space until you have a
small amount of subscribers.
Decide how often you want to send out
your ezineYou need to decide how often you want to send out your
ezine.
It really depends on how much time you have and how much money
you want to make.
You can send it daily, a few times a week, once a
week, or monthly. You decide what is best for you.
Finding a place
to host your ezineYou need to decide where to host your ezine. I
suggest a free host until you have money to pay for one.
The
disadvantage of a free host is you have to deal with them running their
advertisements through the emails going to your subscribers.
I suggest
setting up your ezine at two places. Yes, I said two places and I will tell
you why in a minute. Set up an account and get a group set up at
www.yahoogroups.com
and www.topica.com.
Make sure you set these up as
"announcement lists" and also when it asks you if you want them listed in the
directory, say yes. Topica will allow you to list in two categories. Take
advantage of it because it gives you more exposure.
Now, you are
wondering why I am suggesting setting up two newsletter hosts. The reason why
is because then you will get subscribers visiting your ezine information page
on both list hosts. This is a very good thing! I did this EXACT same thing
when I first started and it really will give you subscribers quickly.
I
know it sounds like a pain to email two lists but let me tell you it will be a
benefit later.
When you have a lot of subscribers move them to one
list. It is very easy to do. I have moved subscribers around several
times.
Get busy it is time to send out your first ezine.
These
are the methods I have personally used to start and grow my ezine. If you
follow my suggestions, you should see your ezine being a nice income
generator.
Best wishes on your success!
